BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES
Birthdays, this week:
Anniversaries, this week:
WEEK OF APRIL 1, 2012
Maundy Thursday is observed during Holy Week on the Thursday before Easter. Derived from the Latin word mandatum, meaning "commandment" ("I command you, do this in remembrance of me"...) ... Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper when Jesus shared the Passover meal with his disciples on the night before he was crucified. In contrast to joyful Easter celebrations when Christians worship their resurrected Savior, Maundy Thursday services are typically more solemn occasions, marked by the shadow of Jesus' betrayal. Please join us Thursday evening, April 5th....at 5:00 p.m. for a lite, soup supper, followed at 5:45 p.m. by a more solemn Tennebrae (Darkness) Service ....in the sanctuary.
And may your Holy Week be meaningful....
Dinner Club: Matthew Rizzie, Housing Coach 2 of Visionary Home Builders of California, will speak to us on building homes and strengthening communities at Dinner Club on Monday, April 2nd at U.J.'s 6:15 p.m. Please make your reservation by April 1st and give your choice of Chicken, Beef, or Fish to Harriet Judson 463-6851. Cost is $14.50.
FCCS Members & Friends: as you've heard....our Spring Gathering for the Mountain Valley Association is practically upon us; it is set for Sunday, April 1st (Palm Sunday) at 3:00 p.m. in Modesto. Question: how many of you are planning to attend? Our colleagues to the south have asked us to alert them so they can know how many to plan for for the gathering/dinner after worship and business meeting. Our choir will be in attendance; there will be a joint choir performance. Please 'raise your hands' if you're planning to attend!
There are plans for a youth event to take place during the business meeting. What a fun opportunity for our young people from our churches to get to know each other. Worship that day will also be an intergeneraltional service too.
FCCS Members: Have you ever had a great opportunity come your way? Did you 'seize the Day' and make the most of it? Our NCN Conference.....has the stunning added bonus this year at our Annual Gathering....to be hosting the incredible Anthony Robinson as Keynote Speaker. Wow! (In case you're not aware, he is maybe the most sought after speaker in our denomination and one of our nation's foremost Christian writers and motivational speakers. He often writes our daily devotionals as a Stillspeaking Writer; I have forwarded his work on to you previously.)
